Nice to meet you.
👋 Who I Am
Hey, I’m Andrew - bit of an introvert, stupid enough to run marathons 🏃♂️ and a big All Blacks fan 🖤. I’m the founder of Simple Honours.
📚 No Born Genius
I was fortunate to go through school and university alongside some really smart people – seriously, next-level smart. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of them. But what I lacked in natural intellect, I made up for with determination, curiosity, and just enough nerdiness 🤓 to figure things out.
🎓 The Turning Point
I stuck with it – and after a long journey, eventually landed myself First Class Honours in Engineering. Not because I was the smartest in the room, but because I figured out what most schools never teach: 👉 How to actually LEARN.
I’ve since gone on to earn a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and worked with leading firms across strategy and operations — most recently as General Manager at one of New Zealand’s largest listed infrastructure companies.
🧠 The Pattern Behind Performance
Along my studying journey, I sat more exams than I care to count, worked alongside top university students, and dove deep into the science of high performance. One thing became clear: success in tests and exams depends far more on structure than on smarts.
🌱 Origins
It started with tutoring – specific subjects at first. That grew into a study book. And eventually, it evolved into teen coaching.
🚀 Why I Do This
As my career progressed, I realised that knowing how to learn isn’t just the key to earning qualifications – it’s the foundation for confidence, capability, and success in life. Too often, I saw teens disengaging. Not because they weren’t smart or motivated, but because they lacked the structure and skills to learn effectively.
Then add the pressures of social media, comparison culture, and the pace of modern life, and it’s no wonder things can spiral.
That’s why I built Simple Honours – a practical, no-fluff way to help teens learn smarter, not harder.
🚫 Just What Works
No hacks. No cram guides. Just proven strategies built around:
Purpose before pressure
Quality over quantity
Tools that adapt to the actual student
Actionable advice – not just theory
If that sounds different from traditional school… it is. And that’s kind of the point.
🗣️ A Message for Parents
Here’s what most parents don’t hear enough:
It’s not too late to help your teen turn things around.
Whether they’re at the start or end of high school or starting university, they still have time to build the mindset, skills, and habits that will set them up – not just for exams, but for life!
